Paulinos Pastelaria

Portugal is a very small country... so it baffles me that they have 3 entire newspapers dedicated to soccer. From front page to back page, every single page is covered in soccer news and photos. I truly believe that the Portuguese people find soccer news more important than world news because EVERYONE is reading these soccer papers in the morning... including the hubby. While we are in Portugal he must have his daily dose of "A Bola" with his breakfast. While hubby was reading his paper I had my cream filled pastry sprinkled with crunchy almonds. mmm...Paulinos is a local bakery that we frequent while we are in Portugal. We pretty much go here every morning. Everything is made fresh daily. I love all of the breads and pastires of Portugal. I think the wonderful breads of Portugal rival that of France. Hubby is a ham & cheese kind of guy and loves the ham and cheese sandwich at Paulinos. It's simple and to the point. The "compal" peach drink is also a favorite of ours. Sis-in-law loves this version of a ham and cheese sandwich baked in a sweet bread.

Wow, have a wonderful time there! My great grandmother was some sort of famous poet in Portugal. There's a street named after her somewhere. I'll get there someday!

I don't care what country you visit, little bakeries are always the best places to taste local cuisine.
